Lockdown Browser behavior when a swipe gesture is detected under Windows

Background Information:

Issue was identified that a student taking a test on an older version of the Lockdown Browser could switch to an application running in the background by a specific key strokes combinations that fires up the swipe gesture. We have immediately notified the vendor and they advised that student laptops should be running the latest version of LD Browser for this issue to be handled.

Recommendations

  1. Give high stakes exams in computer labs. Computer lab machines are always updated with the latest version of the LD Browser
  2. If you are allowing exams on laptops, make sure that your students are running the latest version of LD Browser. Latest version as of October 14, 2019 is 2.0.4.05
  3. Require that students close all open application before attempting the test on the LD Browser
  4. Be more vigilant as the use of the LD Browser is not a substitute for proctoring

What to Expect

  1. LD Browser's will take measures to tackle this behavior only when students start the test
  2. Students who attempts to swipe to an application running in the background, will result in that application to be terminated once a student interacts with the application window
  3. Students will get a warning message if their behavior is repeated, the LD Browser will kick them out of the exam, and you will get notified in the LD Browser's Dashboard
  4. To help with student machines which are not updated to the latest version, we are now blocking suspected applications from running along side the LD Browser
