How can I set up Drive File Stream on Mac?

Google Drive File Stream allows you to stream your Drive files directly from the cloud to your Mac or PC, freeing up disk space and network bandwidth.

Because Drive files are stored in the cloud, any changes you or your collaborators make are automatically updated everywhere. You’ll always have the latest version.

Step 1: When you are logged into your email, open your Google Drive.

Step 2: On the top right corner of the screen, select the "Settings" gear icon.

Step 3: Select “Get Drive File Stream for MAC” from the drop down menu.

Step 4: You will be redirected to the page shown below. Under "Download and install Drive File stream", select  “DOWNLOAD FOR MAC”.

This will allow you to access your Google Drive as a local folder on your computer. 

Step 2: On your phone, download the Google Drive application through the App store or Play store.  

Step 3: Log in to Google Drive using your AUS credentials. 
 
Step 4: Take a picture of your answer sheet and open it in your "Gallery". 
 
Step 5: Select the photo (or multiple photos) and from the “Upload” menu select “Google Drive” as the destination.

How to Share Files and Folders in Google Drive

After accessing your Google Drive and finding the files you would like to share:

Step 1: Click on the file and sharing options, “Get Shareable Link” and “Share” will appear. If you would like to share multiple files at the same time, hold "Shift button" on your keyboard and click on each file.

Step 2: Select a way to share the file.

   Step 2.1: Share a link to the file.
   You can send other people a link to your file so anyone with the link can use it.

       Step 2.1.1: Click on “Get shareable link” and use the link that appeared to share the file.

Guidelines for sharing information on Google Drive

Purpose

Provide the American University of Sharjah (AUS) community with guidelines to ensure that AUS Google Drive is utilized in a manner that maximizes business benefits and minimizes the risks of information leakage. 

Scope

1. The guidelines apply to all current and potential users (faculty, staff, students, alumni and others) of the AUS provided Google Drive.

2. The guidelines are applicable to information shared with external users outside of AUS (not part of AUS faculty, staff, students, and alumni). However, it is still advisable to follow these guidelines for sharing information within the AUS network (Google Drive users).

How to access Google Drive

When you are logged into your email:

Step 1: At the top right corner of the screen, click on "Google Apps" icon.

Step 2: Select “Drive”.

Step 3: The page will redirect you to your Google drive.

When accessing by link:

Step 1: Open a browser and type “drive.google.com”.

Step 2: Type in your email address along with “@aus.edu”.

Step 3: ​Enter your AUS username as ([email protected]), make sure to write the username with @aus.edu and click Next

How can I regularly backup my data on my laptop/PC?

Making regular backups of your data is of utmost importance and will keep your data safe should there be any hardware or software malfunctions.
Here are some backup solutions:

USB and Hard Drive: The easiest way to save your data is by making a copy of your relevant information at regular intervals. 

Documents, PowerPoint Presentations and Excel spreadsheets will fit into most USB drives. Program Installations, Videos, Audio files and RAW Picture formats are best kept in external hard drives. We recommend a personal Hard Drive of at least 500GB capacity to backup your data.
